We’ve built a platform to play online! Instead of buying a gift, wrapping it, and showing up at someone’s house, you can now join a virtual event with all of your friends. In the virtual event you can submit a gift online before the big day, and then on the day of the event you can all jump on a video call to unwrap gifts virtually. The system controls the order of play and allows players to swap and steal to their hearts content! At the end of the event we let everyone know who won their gift so you can coordinate delivery.

Yes! White Elephant Online was designed to be used alongside with Zoom (or any video conferencing platform such as Google Hangouts or Skype). When it’s party time, you and all your event attendees can join the Zoom call, log into White Elephant Online and get started!

Nope! You won’t actually purchase gifts on our website. When you join a game you will need to submit a gift in order to play. This just means that you need a link from any item on any website. If you have a gift at home with you already that's fine too - you will just upload a photo of it.

When the gifts are "unwrapped" during the game, we will display the name and photo of the gift for everyone to see. After the game is over and you know who won your awesome gift, you can go ahead and purchase from the retailer and have it shipped directly to the winner.

Yes! We offer the ability for you to upload a photo of a gift you already have.

We encourage everyone to login when the game is being played. This way all the participants can check in, see what number they got and view what gifts have been opened at their own leisure so they can plan their next move! However, when it comes to actually playing the game, only one person (what we call the ‘Game Lead’) will have the ability to choose the next gift to unwrap or steal. This person will share their screen, and everyone can follow along at home and tell the Game Lead what they want to do on their turn.

This actually streamlines the gameplay so everyone is watching the same screen in real-time on Zoom. It makes for a better shared experience, and if someone can’t log in themselves to White Elephant Online it still works just fine.

Nope! Once you’ve completed the game, we’ll tell everyone who got their gift. At that time, you can purchase the gift from the original website, and simply ship it directly to the recipient. (Note: if you prefer to buy a gift and ship it yourself, you can do that too).

Yes! We know privacy is important, so there is are a few Gift Distribution options to support this. One will provide participants with a link to purchase a VISA e-gift card, which can be sent via email instead. Alternatively, if you wish to purchase/distribute gifts centrally (e.g. there is an HR rep with everyone’s address who can handle it), we provide a summary of who won which gift, with links to those gifts, at the end to easily handle this case. Yes! Our platform will work globally. The main consideration would be the shipping of the gifts. The actual purchasing and shipping of gifts happens *outside* our platform, on the original retailer website. As long as everyone submits from a retailer that ships internationally, then it will work fine. Amazon is usually a safe bet, but it does depend on your specific circumstances. We support a whole bunch of variations in play, such as stealing vs. swapping, capping the number of steals per turn, and more. But don’t worry - we have a recommended, default set of rules you can use without adjusting a thing.
